Agents Helping Writers works exclusively with ethical agents. Our agents adhere to multiple Codes of Conduct, including the American Association of Literary Agents (AALA) Canon of Ethics. Section 8 of the Canon states that, “If an agent decides to represent an author after providing paid editorial services, they must refund all fees paid for those services and stop charging for them.” Agents Helping Writers does not guarantee literary representation by its agents. However, should your Coach decide to offer you representation, the agent’s fee will be refunded to you, minus the portion allotted to Agents Helping Writers, in accordance with Section 8 of the Canon. You do not have to request the refund. Agents Helping Writers will automatically process the refund once you have signed a contract for literary representation with your Coach. Refunds may take 7-10 to show up on your method of payment. Your Coach may suggest referring you to other agent(s) who would be the perfect champion for your book. With your consent, they may share your book with them for potential representation. In this circumstance, no refunds are provided since the Coach that did the editorial work is not the agent who signed you for representation.
